Hammer Museum

Art

Finally! As I said on one of my earlier posts that is next on my list of which museums in SoCal I would like to go to is the Hammer Museum. The Hammer Museum is my new favourite museum to go to in SoCal so far and it kind of reminded me of the New Museum in Bowery, New York. Each of the exhibitions had their own personality and were captivating. My mum, sister and I were lucky to see the three out of the six exhibitions before they closed.

The three exhibitions that were my favourites were of the artists, N. Dash, Jim Hodges and Francis Upritchard. However, in the Jim Hodges’ exhibition, “Give More Than You Think,” there was a specific piece that completely drew me in and there were several of the works around the exhibition. The art piece is called, “Movement” and I could not believe how intricate the pieces of mosaic glass that were put together to create a beautiful mirror dancing with you as you moved. I loved how the lights reflected off the walls as well and how clever the lights were beaming. My mum, sister and I were very lucky to see the pieces and exhibitions since today is the last day to see them at the museum. Yet, here are some photos from some of the exhibitions and collections from the Hammer Museum. Enjoy!

Beach & Sun

Art

Yesterday, my family and I went to visit my aunt near the beach. It was simply lovely and the weather was perfection. The beach we went to is called Mandalay Bay Beach in Oxnard and there is a pier with a ton of boating as well. There is this one statue that caught my eye near the pier. The statue is of two children, a boy and girl playing on a ship and I thought it was unique how they placed the statue where all there boats were placed by the pier. Here are some photos I had taken of my sister and I. Enjoy!

#OscarNom: #BeginAgain

Art, News, Videos

Super excited to say that one of my favourite films, Begin Again is Oscar Nominated! The song, “Lost Stars,” is categorized under, “Original Song,” and is written by Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois. I adore this film and soundtrack of Begin Again! On the bottom, there are two versions, sung by Kiera Knightley and Adam Levine.

Congrats to the other lovely nominations and to see who they are; here is the link from E! Online: http://www.eonline.com/news/614660/oscars-2015-j-j-abrams-alfonso-cuaron-and-chris-pine-announce-87th-annual-academy-awards-nominations.

Art, Videos

The Oscar Nominations will be announced tomorrow morning! So, to catch up with your favourite actors/actresses here is a playlist from W Magazine’s Youtube Channel called, “Lynn Hirschberg’s Screen Tests: 2015.”

Every year, I watch the playlist videos because it is interesting to see actors/actresses raw and understand their love of film as well. I adore all of these screen tests and I hope you enjoy them as well! Enjoy!

It is a beginning of a new year and it is time to clean out your closet! Yes, I know sometimes it is hard to keep or chose what to donate to charity; but, thank goodness Vogue has a chart to help you decide! The article is called,  “The Ultimate Flowchart for Cleaning Out Your Closet (No Excuses)” and written by Katherine Bernard. Once I saw it, I had to share the article with all of you and hopefully this helps! Here is a link to the article: http://www.vogue.com/7812353/closet-cleaning-new-years-resolution/.

SoCal Museums

Art, News

I read the other day that on January 31st, many of the Southern California museums will be free to the public to support the program, “Museums Free-For-All.” Mark your calendars and try to go to every single museum for free. Also, make sure you look on their websites because certain days are free. For instance, MOCA has their free nights from 5-8 PM on Thursdays. To learn more about the free admissions for January 31st, here is the link from LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/arts/culture/la-et-cm-southern-california-museums-free-20150104-story.html. #NewMusicTuesday: Bastille VS HAIM

Videos

Once again, it is Tuesday today and shout out to one of my best friends, Amanda, who’s birthday is today!

Here is a little pick me up for a long day ahead, Bastille’s new single, “Bite Down.” This features HAIM, another great band and this collaboration is genius. These two bands are one of my favourites for their eclectic indie music. Even though, they are from different countries (UK & US), they have their own style that meshes well with one another. It especially shows in this track.

Do not forget that Bastille is also nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards! Keep an eye out for then when you watch the Grammy Awards! Enjoy!

Music Street Art

Art

While driving down LA today, it was simply splendid because it has been a while since I have been home in a while. When there was a stop light, I looked towards my right and saw two album covers painted on a garage door. The two album covers are from the band, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. It was great to see their album covers, “Here” and their self titled album, “Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros.” The colour and contrast were spot on. Also, it is a unique way to advertise their albums and for people to talk about the band via street art. Street art is the best, that is why I constantly tell people, “Keep your eyes open because you’ll never know what art you would find.” Enjoy!
